We’ve updated our Online Pharmacy policy. Click for more details.

Our doctors and support staff value their relationship with you and aim to provide comprehensive, personalized care. That’s why we are updating our prescription policy to align with these priorities and better serve you and your family.

Effective immediately, we will no longer accept prescription requests from online pharmacies by phone, email, or fax (Chewy.com, 1-800-PetMeds, etc.). We understand there are many reasons that our clients may want to purchase medications from online retailers or outside pharmacies. The concerns we have as your pet’s healthcare provider are:

  • Manufacturer’s product guarantees: Big-box pharmacies often obtain their stock through the “grey market,” voiding the manufacturer’s guarantee. Medications purchased directly from us are guaranteed by the product’s manufacturer and by us, your pet’s veterinarian.
  • Quality control: Our hospital’s supply chain is 100% secure. From the time the medication you order is manufactured up to the point of purchase, it has been handled, stored, and packaged in compliance with manufacturer guidelines. The product you receive is guaranteed to be the name-brand medication in the proper dosage and packaging.
  • Product rebates: Many manufacturers offer product rebates unavailable to consumers purchasing from an online retailer. These rebates often make the price of your pet’s medication competitive with prices shown by big box pharmacies. Purchases made through our online pharmacy are eligible for rebates.
  • Customer service: Managing online pharmacy requests is an unnecessarily lengthy and redundant process that takes time away from your pets and ties up our team members and phone lines. We are choosing as a hospital to focus on taking care of our patients and clients instead of answering duplicate faxes and calling pharmacies.

We support our clients in making an informed choice about where to purchase their pet’s medication. Clients seeking their pet’s medication from outside pharmacies may pick up a written prescription at our hospital. If possible, please call ahead so we can have your written prescription ready with minimal wait.  We cannot email written prescriptions, but if you cannot pick up a physical copy, we can mail one to you for a flat fee.

If you have any further questions about our policy, please do not hesitate to contact us.  We thank you for your support!

Pet Dental Prophylaxis:
A Preventative Approach

Pet dental prophylaxis, commonly known as dental cleaning, is vital to proactive veterinary care. This procedure focuses on thoroughly removing plaque and tartar buildup from your pet’s teeth, addressing potential dental issues before they escalate. Routine dental prophylaxis contributes to oral health and prevents complications such as gum disease and tooth decay.

Key Benefits of Pet Dental Prophylaxis

Prevention of Dental Issues

Dental prophylaxis helps prevent common dental problems, including periodontal disease and gingivitis, ensuring your pet’s continued oral health.

Reduced Risk of Tooth Decay

Regular dental cleanings minimize the risk of tooth decay, promoting the longevity of your pet’s teeth and gums.

Fresh Breath

Dental prophylaxis eliminates the bacteria responsible for bad breath, leaving your pet with fresher breath and a healthier smile.

Key Benefits of Pet Dental Extractions

Pain Relief

Extracting compromised teeth helps alleviate pain and discomfort associated with dental issues.

Prevention of Spread

Extracting severely decayed or infected teeth prevents the spread of infection to surrounding oral structures.

Improved Oral Health

Dental extractions improve oral health, reducing the risk of complications further down the road.

Pet Dental Extractions: Addressing Dental Challenges

In some cases, dental extractions may be necessary to address specific dental challenges. Extractions may be recommended if your pet experiences:

  • Severe Tooth Decay:  Advanced decay that poses a risk to adjacent teeth or causes significant discomfort.
  • Fractured or Broken Teeth:  Teeth that are fractured or broken beyond repair may require extraction to prevent further complications.
  • Advanced Gum Disease:  In cases of advanced periodontal disease, extraction may be necessary to protect surrounding oral structures and prevent additional issues.

Pet dental prophylaxis and extractions at Harrison Animal Hospital in Harrison, OH, are integral components of our commitment to comprehensive veterinary care. Our skilled veterinary team is dedicated to providing precise and effective dental services for your pets.
