Veterinarians
Katie Frerick, DVM
Dr. Katie Frerick has been a dedicated member of Harrison Animal Hospital since June 2014, bringing passion and expertise to every patient she cares for. Her professional interests include general medicine, ophthalmology, and soft tissue surgery. She is also an active member of both the Ohio Veterinary Medical Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association.
“I love helping owners make informed decisions for their pets,” says Dr. Frerick. “The variety of cases I see daily is astounding, and I really enjoy the challenge!”
Dr. Frerick’s love for animal care began in high school when she worked cleaning stalls in exchange for horseback riding lessons. This early experience sparked a lifelong dedication to veterinary medicine. She went on to attend Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, where she graduated summa cum laude, before earning her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2014.
Outside of work, Dr. Frerick enjoys spending time with her beloved Shih Tzu, Turnip, whom she also takes to agility competitions. In her free time, she finds joy in horseback riding, family game nights, and painting.
Dr. Heather Carlin, DVM
Dr. Carlin earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Tennessee in 2018 and has a special interest in preventive care and helping pets stay healthy through every stage of life. She enjoys working closely with families to keep their pets feeling their best, with a focus on education, early intervention, and personalized care.
Known for her warm personality and kind heart, Dr. Carlin loves building relationships with both pets and their people. Her genuine compassion, positive attitude, and love for animals make every visit a little brighter—for clients, patients, and her teammates alike.
Outside of the hospital, Dr. Carlin enjoys traveling, spending time with her family, and caring for her dog, herd of cats, and horses. Whether she’s at work or at home, her passion for animals is always front and center.
Dr. Alex Orndorff, DVM
Dr. Alex Orndorff earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2022. He enjoys all aspects of general practice, with a special interest in surgery, and is passionate about helping pets live healthier, happier lives.
Dr. Orndorff believes veterinary medicine isn’t one-size-fits-all. He enjoys working with families to develop care plans that fit their individual goals, their pets’ needs, and their circumstances. Known for his down-to-earth approach, he values honest conversations, practical recommendations, and making sure pet owners feel informed and supported every step of the way.
He also understands that a trip to the veterinarian can be stressful for some pets. Whether that means sitting on the floor with a nervous dog, taking the time to earn a shy cat’s trust, or simply slowing down to let a pet get comfortable, he strives to make each visit as low-stress as possible.
Outside of the hospital, Dr. Orndorff enjoys spending time with his family and his two Huskies, who keep him active and always entertained.
Maggie, Practice Manager
Maggie has been a valued member of Harrison Animal Hospital since 2010 and serves as our Practice Manager. With an MBA and more than 15 years of experience in veterinary medicine, she combines her passion for patient care with a strong foundation in leadership, operations, and business management to support both our team and the families we serve.
Throughout her career, Maggie has worked in nearly every aspect of the hospital, giving her a unique understanding of what it takes to deliver a positive experience for clients, patients, and staff. She is passionate about building a strong team, improving processes, and ensuring the hospital continues to provide compassionate, personalized care.
“What I love most is building relationships with our clients and watching the bond they share with their pets. It’s incredibly rewarding to know that, whether I’m helping behind the scenes or working directly with a family, I’m making a difference in their experience.”
Outside of work, Maggie enjoys spending time with her family and pets, and continuing to grow her knowledge of veterinary medicine, leadership, and practice management.
