We’ve updated our Online Pharmacy policy. Click for more details.

Our doctors and support staff value their relationship with you and aim to provide comprehensive, personalized care. That’s why we are updating our prescription policy to align with these priorities and better serve you and your family.

Effective immediately, we will no longer accept prescription requests from online pharmacies by phone, email, or fax (Chewy.com, 1-800-PetMeds, etc.). We understand there are many reasons that our clients may want to purchase medications from online retailers or outside pharmacies. The concerns we have as your pet’s healthcare provider are:

  • Manufacturer’s product guarantees: Big-box pharmacies often obtain their stock through the “grey market,” voiding the manufacturer’s guarantee. Medications purchased directly from us are guaranteed by the product’s manufacturer and by us, your pet’s veterinarian.
  • Quality control: Our hospital’s supply chain is 100% secure. From the time the medication you order is manufactured up to the point of purchase, it has been handled, stored, and packaged in compliance with manufacturer guidelines. The product you receive is guaranteed to be the name-brand medication in the proper dosage and packaging.
  • Product rebates: Many manufacturers offer product rebates unavailable to consumers purchasing from an online retailer. These rebates often make the price of your pet’s medication competitive with prices shown by big box pharmacies. Purchases made through our online pharmacy are eligible for rebates.
  • Customer service: Managing online pharmacy requests is an unnecessarily lengthy and redundant process that takes time away from your pets and ties up our team members and phone lines. We are choosing as a hospital to focus on taking care of our patients and clients instead of answering duplicate faxes and calling pharmacies.

We support our clients in making an informed choice about where to purchase their pet’s medication. Clients seeking their pet’s medication from outside pharmacies may pick up a written prescription at our hospital. If possible, please call ahead so we can have your written prescription ready with minimal wait.  We cannot email written prescriptions, but if you cannot pick up a physical copy, we can mail one to you for a flat fee.

If you have any further questions about our policy, please do not hesitate to contact us.  We thank you for your support!

Understanding the Importance of Vaccinating Your Pets

Vaccinations are crucial in preventing diseases that can impact your pet’s health. By vaccinating your pet, you provide essential protection against illnesses that could otherwise lead to severe complications. Vaccinations safeguard their health and contribute to the well-being of the broader pet community. It helps create a healthier environment by minimizing the spread of contagious diseases.

Our Vaccination Services

At Harrison Animal Hospital, we offer a comprehensive range of pet vaccinations tailored to the specific needs of your animal companion. Our services include:

Core Vaccines

Core vaccinations are crucial for both cats and dogs, protecting them from serious diseases. For cats, these typically include feline viral rhinotracheitis (FVR), feline calicivirus (FCV), feline panleukopenia (FPV), and rabies. Dogs commonly receive vaccinations against distemper, parvovirus, adenovirus, and rabies.

Lifestyle Vaccines

Lifestyle vaccinations are additional vaccines recommended based on a pet’s individual risk factors. For cats, these may include vaccines for diseases like feline leukemia virus (FeLV), feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV), and Bordetella (kennel cough). Similarly, dogs may receive non-core vaccinations for Bordetella, leptospirosis, Lyme disease, and canine influenza virus.

Puppy & Kitten Vaccinations

Puppy and kitten vaccinations are essential for protecting young pets. Typically starting at 6 to 8 weeks old, puppies receive vaccines for distemper, parvovirus, adenovirus, and rabies, while kittens receive shots for FVR, FCV, FPV, and rabies. These initial vaccines are given in a series over several weeks, followed by boosters to maintain immunity.

When to Book Pet Vaccinations

  • Puppy and Kitten Vaccinations: Start your new pet’s vaccination series at six weeks old to build crucial immunity during their early months.
  • Adult Pet Vaccinations: Protect your adult dog or cat with regular booster shots against prevalent diseases. Our team will recommend the right schedule for your pet’s needs.
  • Adapting to Lifestyle Changes: If your pet experiences changes like increased exposure to other animals or new environments, consult our veterinarians to adjust their vaccination plan accordingly.
